Next Saturday, October 24 a historical reenactment of questionable accuracy is taking New York by storm: the Marshmallow Civil War. You can participate by showing up at 3:00 pm on the dot at Brooklyn Banks, the park in Manhattan under the Brooklyn Bridge. The battle is BYO marshmallows and weaponry.
On Wednesday nights, head to the Cameo in Williamsburg for what NY Mag has called the city’s best stand up comedy. The show is free; there are no pesky drink minimums, and big-name comedians frequently make unannounced appearances (recent cameos include Zach Galifianakis, Todd Barry, and Aziz Ansari).
Head to the New Yorker Festival from October 1st to 3rd to catch a worthy range of discussions and performances by artists, actors and writers including Alec Baldwin, Steve Carell, Regina Spektor, Malcom Gladwell, and a panel featuring the SNL cast.
Head to Habana Outpost in Fort Greene for an end-of-summer evening with delicous cuban sadwiches, grilled corn, strong frozen drinks and free movies under the stars. They show a different movie every Sunday through October. This weekend it’s Kings of New York on September 20th.
Head to Fort Greene any Sunday this September to enjoy free music, workshops, performances, games and arts at Move About Myrtle. Myrtle Avenue between Hall and Clermont will be closed for pedestrians from noon to 6pm. On 9/5 and 9/12, Soul Summit DJs will spin from 3-6pm near Clermont.
