Start saying goodbye to summer with a final beach day and seafood on the water. A ferry-ride away from New York, Sandy Hook is poised right at the beginning of the New Jersey coastline and is perfect for a day trip to the beach. Take a ride through the North Fork’s many vineyards, stop at farmstands for fresh berries, stop in a historic town for gourmet lunch. Then take a ferry across the water to Shelter Island then the South Fork for a dip in the Atlantic before heading back to the city.
Surf at a pristine beach, feel the Arrested Development love at the frozen banana stand, and get in a little Bruce Springsteen history. It’s cheap and easy via public transit.
