Baker Beach, way off in the northwest corner of the city and yet the southwest section of the Presidio, is a slice of San Francisco majesty. Cleaner, smaller and often less crowded than Ocean Beach, Baker offers stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the rolling Marin Headlands and the mighty Pacific. Weather, unsurprisingly, is fickle here, so check it before you head out. Sunbathers will take full advantage of even the slightest warmth, but more likely you’ll jackets and blankets will be in order.
On Sundays at Thee Parkside, just five blocks away from Plow, you’ll find some good old fashioned, down home, country roots music. Thee Parkside has music most nights, which range across genres and may not be for everyone, but Twang Sundays are the dive bar’s old standby.
Every Thursday just blocks away from ICHI on Mission is Bingotopia at the Knockout. Yes, it is just what it sounds: this little dive known for some of the city’s best dance nights, on this night, becomes a bingo hall.
There are countless chinese restaurants in San Francisco, but Shanghai Dumpling King rules when it comes to xiao long bao – hot, juicy, soupy dumplings filled with pork. The no frills hole-in-the-wall delivers authentic atmosphere and quick service. Come for the dumplings and stay for the (sometimes) free, freshly made sugared egg puffs.

Bi-Rite has everything you need for a great picnic, but the lines can be long on movie night so pick something up ahead of time.
