You don’t need us to tell you that are a lot of great Mexican restaurants in San Francisco, but New Mexican food is another story, and The Green Chile in NoPa is probably the city’s best. True to its name the spicy New Mexican green chile is featured in most dishes, but so is the richly flavorful red chile. Deciding between the two depends on your mood, but if you can’t, fret not, remember the season, and ask for your dish Christmas.
After some mackerel and ginger at Ichi Sushi, the intimate, newish sushi restaurant on Mission Street in Bernal Heights, you’ll wonder why all sushi doesn’t taste like this. Chef Tim Archuleta, the man behind the Monday sushi happy hours at Benders Bar, offers sushi for foodies: fresh, simple and elegant. The combinations aren’t crazy; you won’t find piles of fish drenched in sauce. The presentations are simple, a moist, buttery but firm piece of fish that allows the clean flavors to do their work: just the way it should be.
